Many have learnt that contentment cannot be bought like merchandise. No wonder, contentment is elusive in our world that fosters a desire for more earthly possessions and greater achievements. Is it possible to be content? Yes is possible to be content. I now invite you to consider five secrets of contentment found in God’s Word.
Secret Number 1: Love People, Not Money and Possessions
The Bible says in 1 Timothy 6:10 “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows”
Most times societal influence tends to lead us on the path of discontentment. Our society want us to slave to gain money so that we can spend it on newer, better, bigger items. Money is seductive and we can easily be obsessed with it, if we are not care. We will end up feeling the pain and suffering that associates with the of love money. The love of money has led millions astray from the word of God, for the love of money people will kill their own brother, mother or father.
King Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 5:10, “He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity”.
The comfort and things that money brings is for our good and we are suppose to control money but when we start to idolize it, that is when our problem starts. It then becomes a lord and god over the affairs of our lives.
Imitating God and learn to love people more than your earthly possession. Even God was willing to give up his son because of love for people (John 3:17).There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving. Make it a practice to give to others of our time and resources, true contentment comes from loving and being loved
